Lawn Cottage

Stour Row, Shaftesbury, Dorset

Facilities

Description

Lawn Cottage is in the village of Stour Row near Shaftesbury and is a delightful 18th Century stone cottage that offers B&B accommodation. There is a gate from the garden to the fields behind which leads to Duncliffe Wood. Duncliffe is 250 acres of Woodland Trust full of lovely walks and in the early spring bursting with primroses and violets and later filled with bluebells and foxgloves.

All of the rooms at our bed and breakfast are filled with charming antiques. We have 3 guest rooms available which include:

Ground floor twin/double with en suite shower room & TV/DVD player. Suitable for the less able (but not wheelchairs).
A ground floor lofty single/bunk bedroom with en suite shower. Suitable for the less able (but not wheelchairs).
Double bedroom with private bathroom upstairs.

A full English breakfast with organic eggs, bacon, Text taken from thebandbdirectory.co.uk sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms, Dorset cereals and porridge, kippers and haddock on request and a selection of bread, croissants and rolls, with homemade blackcurrant jam and marmalade. All accompanied by fresh coffee, a selection of teas and freshly squeezed orange juice. Breakfast can be taken in the cosy kitchen with its Aga or in the more formal dining room.

We also have a glamping shepherds hut available for those who want a peaceful hideaway. More information can be found on our website.

The delightful market town of Shaftesbury is nearby and is famous for Gold Hill which featured in the Hovis advert. Within half an hour are the following lovely towns – Sherborne (with the Abbey, Old and New Castles) Wincanton (with antique shops and the National Hunt Racecourse) Blandford, famous for its Georgian houses, Dorchester (Thomas Hardy) and Wilton and Salisbury.

The lovely Wilton House, Longleat and Sherborne Castles are within half an hour as are the National Trust houses of Stourhead and Kingston Lacey. Dorset has a wealth of lovely Churches, villages and places to visit. There are books of walks at Lawn Cottage and Mrs Watkins is happy to recommend days out. Dorset is a delightful county to explore with a wealth of villages and towns, churches and gardens, walks and pubs, ancient hill forts and its isolation from any motorways and small lanes to travel through somehow make it unique.
