40 Pier Road offers real island hospitality at the heart of Port Ellen on the island of Islay. Set in a magical village location, we boast stunning sea views from every room. Our house is an ideal base for exploring the wonderful range of attractions and natural beauty of Islay and the neighbouring island of Jura.
We offer two charming suites in our traditional family home. Finlaggan bedroom, which has a double bed and plenty space to relax, is complemented by a dressing room and large ensuite bathroom. Texa is a two roomed suite with ensuite bathroom: a choice of king-size or twin beds in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the adjoining sitting area Text taken from thebandbdirectory.co.uk mean that three adults can be accommodated in comfort. Each suite has satellite TV, radio/CD player, free wifi and a hospitality tray with a good range of Fairtrade products.
The kitchen/dining room can be used by guests in the evenings should they wish to eat in while enjoying the wonderful view over the bay. In the morning enjoy a Continental or full Scottish breakfast made with the best of produce as testified by our VisitScotland “Taste our Best” award. As we recover from Covid19, arrangements will be made so that no two parties of guests will share a dining room. Each group will have exclusive use of their own comfortable space.
40 Pier Road is within walking distance of three of Islay’s iconic whisky distilleries – Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg are all within 3.5 miles. Take the Three Distilleries Path visiting each with a reward of lunch or coffee – and of course a dram – at Ardbeg. From the pontoons just two minutes from our door Islay Sea-Adventures offer a range of sea trips along the coast passing our unique square lighthouse, the Distilleries and the romantic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle while taking in a spot of seal watching or sea fishing on the way. The RSPB Oa reserve is only a few miles away and choughs and eagles can be seen soaring above the awe-inspiring sea cliffs where wild goats roam free.
