The End Cottage offers bed and breakfast accommodation set in its own thatched cottage within a beautiful garden at Heydon in Cambridgeshire. The compact, 16thC converted barn stands in a delightful garden on a hilltop commanding tremendous views that embrace a distant rim of the Chilterns, the spires of Cambridge & beyond them, the misty bulk of Ely Cathedral, 30 odd miles away.
The accommodation consists of a beamed double bedroom, a shower and dressing room and a separate lavatory with washbasin. There are books, magazines, TV and radio and always flowers on the table.
Breakfast is served beside a deep inglenook fireplace in the dining room of the main house, a larger thatched and beamed cottage of similar age that shares the garden. Local produce is used for breakfast, and the marmalade and jams are homemade.
Within walking distance there is an excellent pub/restaurant, and several others with glowing reputations in villages roundabout. There is much to see in the area, although a car is necessary. The colleges, museums and art galleries of Cambridge are within easy reach as is the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, with its famous array of aircraft and armoured fighting vehicles. Not far off is the pretty market town of Saffron Walden and great houses to visit, such as Wimpole Hall, Audley End and Anglesey Abbey.
