Arundel itsef has no end of things to entertain visitors, whether it is meandering around antique shops or going for long country walks. The town is dominated by the Castle, the second largest in England. Originally established at the time of the Norman Conquest, this impressive building was later to become the home of the Dukes of Norfolk, hereditary Earls Marshall of England. It was obviously a wise move since successive members of the family have remained in residence for over 400 years! It's well worth a visit, please note it is closed between November to April.
As well as the beautiful architecture of this lovely Georgian market town there are some quite individual shops to look around with the quaint narrow streets, full of antique shops and eating places, all set above the tranquil setting of the River Arun. The Cathedral is open all year and free and is a beautiful place to have a quiet wander. There are also some amazing walks around the area, one being through Arundel Park for about which is around 4 miles in length - this walk has the most breathtaking scenery over towards Amberly and Houghton.
Places to visit nearby include Chichester, Petworth, Goodwood, Singleton and Fishbourne just to name a few.
