Charcott Farmhouse offers wonderful guest house accommodation in Leigh, Tonbridge in Kent. We are the perfect base from which to explore this glorious part of Kent.
Tucked away in the Weald countryside behind the tiny hamlet of Charcott, the pretty old 17th century tile hung farmhouse is typical of the local Kentish architecture and now, no longer a working farm, forms part of a peaceful homestead well away from any roads and surrounded by open fields.
At this Bed & Breakfast accommodation the 3 twin bedrooms are simply furnished with pretty traditional country fabrics and have either en suite facilities or a private bathroom next door. Each room has ample clothes storage space, fully adjustable central heating, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer and mineral water. One of the 2 en suite rooms is on the ground floor.
Downstairs the old beamed bakehouse still retains its original bread oven and provides a small comfortable sitting room with colour TV where guests can relax over a cup of tea. In the summer tea is often served outside in the warmth of the sun baked brick terrace overlooking the garden on the west side of the house.
Breakfasts are cooked on the kitchen Aga and served communally in the dining room with individual timings to suit. All breakfast choices are adaptable according to preference and are accompanied by fruit juice and tea or filter coffee. Porridge and breakfast brulee are popular as hot starters with fresh fruit, cereals, museli, home made yoghurt and cheese available from the sideboard.
Breakfast is served communally in the dining room. It is a relaxed and informal affair with individual orders and timings agreed the night before and guests are free to linger over refills of coffee or tea as long as they wish. Eggs are fresh from our own flock of free range chickens and menus vary according to taste. Cereals, fresh fruit and juice are available on a help yourself basis and caramelised pears with home made yoghurt is proving a very popular starter. These may be followed by a traditional farmhouse fry up, poached eggs, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, kippers or even kedgeree. English cheeses and continental breakfasts are of course available for guests with smaller appetites and all our bread, wholemeal, granary and white is homemade in the aga along with a range of marmalade and jams. As far as possible all ingredients are organic and locally sourced.Vegetarian and special diets can generally be catered for provided enough notice is given.
For evening meals we are very lucky to have the Greyhound Pub a five minute walk down the drive where Tony and Alison serve an excellent range of reasonably priced meals. For those wishing to go further afield there are numerous other possibilities and a visit to The Rock at Chiddingstone Hoath or the Castle Inn at Chiddingstone to sample Larkins bitter brewed locally in the village should not be missed.
Local attractions at this Bed and Breakfast accommodation include Penshurst Place and the National Trust village of Chiddingstone - both only minutes away with Hever Castle, Chartwell, Knole Park, Squerryes Court and Ightham Mote all under half an hour. Tonbridge and Sevenoaks are 15 minutes drive and Tunbridge Wells with the famous Pantiles 25 minutes. Gatwick Airport is 40 minutes away and for those wishing to visit London, Penshurst Station is a 10 minute walk across the old aerodrome with trains running hourly to London Bridge.
