Set amidst the stunning mountainous region of LOCHALSH, this ‘hidden-gem’ nestles in a secluded, highland glen, overlooking LOCH LONG, in north-west Scotland. ‘THE BERRY’, just nine miles away from the SKYE BRIDGE, is not only ‘THE GATEWAY TO THE ISLES’ but a perfect base from which to ebb and flow – within easy reach of EILEAN DONAN CASTLE, GLENELG and it’s famous brochs and car ferry; SANDAIG of “RING OF BRIGHT WATER” fame, APPLECROSS, PLOCKTON, and the beautiful ISLE OF SKYE itself – to name but a few places.
The house is elegant, yet informal, overflowing with character and charm. The bedrooms are light and fresh, and the guest sitting room has south facing views over the loch and surrounding hills. Breakfasts and mouth-watering dinners are thoughtfully and skilfully prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and are enjoyed in the Rayburn-warmed kitchen – the heart of this delightful ‘resting place’! Packed lunches are also willingly provided for those who want to take to the hills for the day. Good ‘pub-grub’ can be found a 10 minute drive away in the small village of DORNIE, with other excellent restaurants further-a-field.
For those who wish to stretch their legs, THE BERRY makes an ideal starting point, with good walks from the house, and a huge variety of a more serious sort for ‘MUNRO BAGGERS’, with the GLOMACH FALLS and the FIVE SISTERS OF KINTAIL being a stones throw away. For less energetic pursuits there are several interesting boat trips locally, the highly acclaimed ATTADALE GARDENS and a couple of golf courses. This area boasts an abundance of flowers and wildlife, from orchids to golden eagles; sea-thrift to dolphins, red deer and otters – the latter of which can often be seen from the house playing on the loch below.
Above all, THE BERRY is an ideal refuge for those who value peace, good food and comfort, in a very special corner of the Highlands. Perfect for artists, photographers, walkers, naturalists or for those simply seeking solace.
