Rothay House is a quality, English Lakeland non smoking guest house in Ambleside on the edge of Lake Windermere between Bowness-on-Windermere and Grasmere.
Our tasty full English Lakeland or vegetarian breakfasts include a selection from the buffet table of various juices, cereals, fresh and dried fruits, warm croissants and yogurts.
Our guest bedrooms are pleasantly furnished and each individually decorated to a high standard. We have 5 double rooms and 1 twin bedded room. Each guest bedroom has its own private facilities along with a colour television with DVD player and complimentary tea and coffee tray.
Ambleside with its quaint old pubs, restaurants and teashops, gift shops, churches and house on the bridge lies within Cumbria's Lake District National Park, which totals 855 square miles and attracts visitors from all over the world. The English Lake District and National Park contains sixteen major lakes, numerous tarns, fells, wooded hills and mountains making it a must whilst touring England and ambleside makes the ideal venue for a short break, holiday or vacation.
Whilst in Ambleside why not visit one of its neighbouring delightful and picturesque villages including Coniston and its association with John Ruskin. Hawkshead, with its beautiful church on the hill and school attended by the Lakeland poet William Wordsworth from 1778 to 1787. Wordsworth's Dove Cottage is in the village of Grasmere and Troutbeck, Keswick and Ullwater are all within easy reach of Rothay House. Further afield is the old market town of Kendal with its famous Kendal mint cake only about half an hours drive from Ambleside.
