The Queens Head Hotel is located in the heart of Alnwick and is within easy walking distance of Alnwick Castle & Gardens in Northumberland. Our hotel offers 4 star guest accommodation and is the oldest pub in Alnwick, dating back to the 16th Century.
There are 3 cosy hotel rooms available all of which are tastefully decorated and furnished & include en suite facilities. Our guests rooms also have flat screen TV’s, free Wi-Fi access, radio alarms and a hospitality tray with tea and coffee. All 3 of the hotel rooms are individually named after people native to Northumberland:
The Harry Hotspur – Harry was born in Alnwick Castle in May 1364 and was the eldest son of Henry Percy the first Earl of Northumberland.
The Lady Jane Grey – born in 1537 whose mother was a daughter of Henry VIII’s sister Mary Tudor. Lady Jane became wife to Northumberland’s Lord Guildford Dudley and eventually became Queen of England on the 10th July 1553 (although it was short lived!).
The Earl of Derwentwater – called ‘Charles’ to his friends and was the second Earl of Northumberland and a son of Mary Tudor and Edward Radclyffe. He was a bit of a lad and was beheaded in 1764 on Tower Hill for a few discrepancies to the Crown!
A freshly prepared, home cooked full English breakfast is served each morning along with a selection of cereals and fresh fruit. After a busy day out exploring the many delights of the surrounding area why not enjoy a delicious evening meal in our superb restaurant or one of our popular basket meals in the bar.
Those who love their history will enjoy exploring Alnwick and the many other places of interest throughout Northumberland. There are no less than 7 castles to explore, within a 15 minute drive along with 5 wonderful golf courses. Our hotel is only a few miles from Warkworth village, Seahouses, the Farne Islands and Craster, which is famous for its kippers and smoked salmon.
